Handy Editorials: Freelance Proofreading and Editing services

Are you saying what you THINK you're saying?

How can an editor or proofreader possibly help you? After all, you're not publishing anything...

Why you might need a proofreader: Can you spot the mistake? It's a well-known fact that the eye sees what the brain thinks is there, and not what is actually there. In business, this can have a devastating effect.
According to a BBC report "poor spelling is costing the UK millions of pounds in lost revenue for internet businesses." And a survey by Small Business Heroes has shown that mistakes cause the majority of clients to actually question a business's competence.

Whether the target audience of your document is the general public, another business, a potential funder, a chairman of the board, or your staff members, you want your text to be as accurate and easy to read as possible.

With a background in both business and the third sector (charities and not-for-profit businesses), I understand the importance of all areas of business, including marketing, tenders, business plans, training manuals, profile raising, business development and sales. I provide a professional fresh eye to your work to ensure that it is written in concise, clear and understandable text.

I offer: Amongst many document types, I work with:
  • proofreading (text checking)
  • rewriting
  • jargon reduction

What Service Do I Need?

Proofreading

Proofreading polishes your text
A proofreader corrects spelling, punctuation and grammar errors, and ensures consistency throughout your document. They do not edit your work.

Proof-Editing

Some clients need more than a basic proofread, but don't require (or don't know that they require) the full edit a copy-editor will provide. This extra "polish" is done during a proofread, where a small amount of grammatical editing is also included.

Copy-Editing

Copy-editing styles your text
Copy-editing is a more in-depth process, which looks at maintaining your style and structure, and ensures the correctness of the document and checks that it is easy to read.
A copy-editor may need to rewrite part of your work with your co-operation.

Project Managing

Ghostwriting, Document management, Publishing assistance, etc.
There are many other factors involved in presenting your document, ranging from page layout and formatting, to time management and more. Whether you are self-publishing for the first time, co-ordinating a multi-person report or are a publisher with a new project, contact me to see how I can help further.
