Handy Editorials: Freelance Proofreading and Editing services

Don't let your English let you down. Have your dissertation, thesis or article proofread
With all the effort that you have put into your work it is important to know that what you are handing in is of the highest standard. After spending months, or even years, researching and creating your dissertation, thesis or paper, you should also make sure it is free from errors and your arguments are presented clearly and succinctly. If you are a student this can make a difference to the grade you receive. As an academic it can sustain your credibility and ensure that your ideas and meaning are communicated coherently and without misunderstanding.

Proofreading for students covers:
  • correcting spelling, grammar and punctuation errors
  • improving clarity, flow and consistency
  • ensuring consistent formatting and layout
  • making sure the references match the correct style
If you are a student and the paper is going to be assessed, I am not able to rewrite or paraphrase any work to adhere to collusion and plagiarism rules. This means that I don't:
  • add to or change the argument of the essay
  • deliberately increase or decrease the word count. (The word count will be altered as a process of the proofread, but I will not specifically set out to reach a specific count.)
  • fact check anything within your argument
  • check the validity of any references you may have cited
Please contact me for my full list of Student Proofreading T&Cs. I charge between £8.00 and £10.00 per thousand words or part thereof for students.

If your paper is not to be assessed, and is for publishing or other use then I also offer my full range of services: Proofreading, proof-editing, copy-editing and project management.

I base my pricing structure on the CIEP suggested minimum rates, so please contact me on claire@handyeditorials.co.uk to discuss a package and rate that suits you and your needs.

Be Aware

Once you have received the proofread document back from me, that it takes time to go through and review all of the changes. When planning your time, request the return time to be at least 24 hours before your hand-in deadline to allow you to go through this.
It's also wise to schedule in printing and binding time for your thesis or dissertation. Remember that you are not the only one who will need it bound, and being stuck in a queue at the printers as your hand-in deadline comes and goes can be very stressful and distressing!

Testimonials

David C, MA by Research Thesis: University of Warwick, 2010.
Claire is fantastic! Not only will she scrutinise the writing you submit to her with a sharp eye, but she will also be a huge support during a very stressful time.

Emily F-H, MSc: University of Warwick
From start to finish Claire was absolutely amazing; not only was she extremely professional, she gave me confidence that my work was going to the best it could be, both in presentation and linguistically.
Any suggestions Claire made to improve my work were clear and explained, something that I found really useful in helping me to decide whether to amend any grammatical or stylistic errors. Furthermore, Claire was incredibly supportive, making the whole experience pleasant and seamless.
All in all, I would highly recommend Claire and cannot thank her enough for her time and effort in assisting me during such a stressful period and would definitely ask her to look over any further work should I need it in future.'

What Service Do I Need?

Proofreading

Proofreading polishes your text
A proofreader corrects spelling, punctuation and grammar errors, and ensures consistency throughout your document. They do not edit your work.

Proof-Editing

Some clients need more than a basic proofread, but don't require (or don't know that they require) the full edit a copy-editor will provide. This extra "polish" is done during a proofread, where a small amount of grammatical editing is also included.

Copy-Editing

Copy-editing styles your text
Copy-editing is a more in-depth process, which looks at maintaining your style and structure, and ensures the correctness of the document and checks that it is easy to read.
A copy-editor may need to rewrite part of your work with your co-operation.

Project Managing

Ghostwriting, Document management, Publishing assistance, etc.
There are many other factors involved in presenting your document, ranging from page layout and formatting, to time management and more. Whether you are self-publishing for the first time, co-ordinating a multi-person report or are a publisher with a new project, contact me to see how I can help further.
